Leslie Somohano, OD: Optometrist

Dr. Leslie Somohano joined the professional eye care team of State Street Eye in 2019, with a specialized interest in providing contact lens care, myopia control for pediatric patients, vision therapy, and comprehensive vision services for individuals with special needs.

Dr. Somohano became interested in the eye care profession through her college volunteer experience with the Lions’ Club and the Opening Eyes program of the Special Olympics.  “Becoming an eye doctor was not something I had originally aspired to be, but I found myself becoming exceedingly engaged with the profession through my volunteer work,” says Dr. Somohano.  “Soon after, I started shadowing eye doctors in my local area and noticed that unlike most other health care encounters, patients were happy after they left an eye doctor’s office.”

She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University, and her Doctorate from the State University of New York College of Optometry (SUNY).  Her clinical rotations have included emphasis in ocular disease, pre- and post-op cataract care, pediatric eye disorders, and vision therapy for traumatic brain injury, such as stroke and concussion.

Dr. Somohano is from Miami, Florida, and immigrated to the United States at age two from Cuba.  She is proficient in Spanish and enjoys world travel – calling Spain one of her favorite places to visit for the best tapas and sangria.  She relocated to Boston because of her desire to live in a vibrant city with a four-season climate. When she is not at State Street Eye, you can find her walking her black Labrador Beau, participating in a yoga or barre class, reading, or baking her awesome banana bread.

Dr. Somohano sees patients at State Street, Financial District, (617) 742-7200 and State Street Eye, Newton-Wellesley (781) 263-7360.
